Let's walk at home together and chat a little bit! How to stay motivated is a popular topic when it comes to achieving any goal, especially when it relates to health and fitness, so I thought we could talk a little about it while we walk today. Join me for this quick, basic walking session and let me know what you think!
And please be sure to share your thoughts --
How do YOU stay motivated?
What are YOUR top tips that help you stay on track?
Also, do you like this new series? Should we do more of these? What else do you want to talk about? Let me know in the comments below!
Oh, and if you want to learn more about our Walk STRONG 2.0 plan you can download the free printable calendar here [scroll to pg 2 for all the program details]: walkonwalkstron...
Thanks for walking and talking with me (and Peanut!) today!
PS - The 1 mile is approximate for this walk - we ended a little early [oops!] so if you want to make it a full mile feel free to add about 2 additional minutes of walk time to hit the mark.

jessicasmithtv Hi, I hope this is the right place for a comment. My 2 tips are: after working out I give myself a high five and say "YEAH! I did it!" Even if the workout was only 10 minutes long. I am a big fan of structure, so I keep a chart of my exercises and tick the ones I've done, with the date beside them.

Love your 1 mile walk n talks! Found your channel during lockdown of 2020 and have been using your videos since. Motivation has been hard for me, an injury really set me back, and I found myself constantly thinking about what I "used to be able to do". My physical therapist finally told me that if all I ever focused on was the past, then the accomplishments I'd made since the injury would never be recognized. Going from walking less then 80yds a day due to pain, to now being able to do a complete mile n talk with everyday is huge! I'm not able to walk a mile outdoors yet, due to weather and terrain, but I'm really striving for one mile hike this fall

I love doing these motivational workouts. They are calm, and let's me kind of just..release the tension from work, without having to overly exert myself, but still get my steps and a decent workout in. It's just walking, no real huge movements. But I find that I can just put my thoughts on other things, and listen.

Jessica you are definitely our friend, even though none of us knows you personally. It feels as though you know us, as you join us at our most vulnerable (in our homes, in our workout clothes, moving and grooving). You are not judgmental. You are motivational and keep a smile on your face! I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You help change the course of my day sometimes, you literally change people's lives! THANK YOU!

I like this series as an add on to my regular workouts. My motivation to exercise is higher than my motivation to lay off the sweets! Finding Jessica made a world of difference in getting me to exercise. I can always find a fun, interesting and challenging workout for whatever mood I'm in and it gets me to do "something rather than nothing". I also have workout clothes that put me in the mood. I woke up today in dire need of a video like this one. It was one of those mornings; I felt tired, unmotivated, bored, you name it. This was what I needed today. I have been struggling to be motivated to exercise ever since I had COVID in early September. It took me about a month to feel back to normal, and then I just haven’t been motivated. I am trying to get back into a habit again. These 1 mile walk and talks are good for that. I can manage 15 minutes!

First, thank you for this gentle walk Jessica. I had a spinal procedure with cortisone on Friday and today is the first day I am allowed to do anything. I stay motivated by having my workout clothes right beside the bed to put on when I first get up. This sets the mood of I have a workout to take care of me to do. I don't put a time limit due to life has many distractions, but always aim for a minimum of 20 minutes to release the endorphins that make me feel better. When I am done, I go to my workout journal and give myself a sticker of achievement just like we got in public school. It works for me. Plus, I learned a very important lesson by starting my MAD Mile 4 Health Facebook page and that is "Accountability Loves Support." For the few that have remained since 2013, we all keep each other motivated just by being accountable and checking in. Thank you as well for your 40 Minute Yoga For Bad Backs which was a great Physical Therapy session.

Hi Jessica! I absolutely love the idea of walking and talking. It gets you up and moving for a few minutes and it's great to discuss different topics. My #1 motivation is seeing the changes in my body over time. And i don't mean 6 pack abs either! I'm noticing muscle tone and definition, being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling I'm going to pass out, my aches and pains have drastically decreased, my energy has increased and I get excited about trying new and different things now. I believe in myself now. I know I and everyone else who tunes in to your channel can do anything if we keep the faith and take it ONE DAY at a time. I can't think about tomorrow or what happened yesterday. I can only focus on today. When I do that, everything seems much more manageable. Thank you for all your workouts, your positive attitude and for being awesome! Keep up the awesome work and I can't wait until the next walk and talk!

Thank you, Jessica! I like the walk+talk concept! I did 2 of your 10-minute circuit workouts after this one! I found your KZbin videos 3 years ago and your short workouts helped me get through the last years of my doctoral studies when I was really busy working full time, studying, and being a mom... and had to give up my hour long exercise classes. Since then my motto: I always have time for a 20 minute workout. And 99% of the time I do two of them! Keep up the great work! Thank you:)

I love, love, love this video. Thank you so much! It is the perfect topper for when I have already completed another video, but still have energy left for just a little more. At 68 years old, I like to get between 45 minutes and an hour of exercise each day. In the morning I did the Latin Spicy Walk (always love walking with you and Debbie!). After lunch I did the 20 minute Upper Body Circuit Walk, followed immediately by the lovely One Mile Walk and Talk. Part of my motivation is my lovely little exercise wrist band that I set to vibrate at 6,000 steps. For me that usually happens sometime between 45 minutes and an hour of exercise.

Loved doing this walk and talk again this evening. I can't believe it is two years ago since you started these amazing walk and talks. I needed this today to help me with yes, motivation but also the opportunity to get some extra steps into my day. Loved the Peanut cam and I so love working out with you Jessica. I have been working out with you since 2014 and every day since 2015 and it has made a huge difference to my health, my life and of course how I look too. I stay motivated by remembering how good I feel after a workout, my accountability buddies on the WS3 check in site, seeing how my fitness and my health has improved over the years, knowing I look my best (and that means strong rather than thin) and realizing that it is helping me to age well so that I can keep active well into my retirement. Thank you Jessica and the fabulous community for your support.

Yes keep doing this series of walk and talk! I LOVE it! I saw this workout in my new subscriptions and was motivated to do it based on the title! My motivation to workout has been low for the past 2 to 3 years. My husband and I are now embracing the vegan lifestyle. Its been a few weeks and I already see changes in my energy level and body! Incorporating your workouts as little as 10 minutes daily is something I choose to make time for. I now have the energy since I changed what I eat to get up earlier to workout. I plan on increasing the length of my workouts over time. Keep up the great work of making videos! It has encouraged me to just start with 5 minute video of stretching! Thank You!!!!

Never look at how far you have to go, look at how far you've come. This helped me when I first started walking/running or even aerobics classes. Don't think, ugh I have another mile to go, think , man, five minutes ago I wasn't this far. And one other thing to keep telling yourself, the mind wants to quit long before the body gives up. That one also keeps me going on tough workout days. I really enjoy your workouts. You are easy to follow. I've turned many people on to your channel. Thanks for taking the time to help people get fit and feel better.

I enjoyed this walk and talk video. While I also do more intense workouts, this is a nice way to get in some extra steps while addressing your mental/emotional health. I agree that something is better than nothing, and the hardest thing to do on some days is just getting started. That applies to working out, starting a project, or just getting ready to start your day. After the walk and talk, I'm motivated to take on the rest of my day with a more positive attitude. I think a big motivator for me is having a concrete answer to the question, "Why?" Such as, "Why is working out important to me?" and "Why do I want to prioritize fitness?"

I stay motivated by thinking about my children and grandchildren. I want them to see how to live a healthy lifestyle and not fall into bad habits now that are hard to break as adults. My 12 yr old daughter does your videos with me and I teach her about form. She loves Peanut! I really love how I feel after moving my body and that also motivates me. If you are not feeling motivated to work out, try a new style of workout. That is how I found this site and I love all the variety. I also have found that 20 minutes of yoga in the morning really puts me in a positive mind for the whole day. My daughter has now started doing yoga on her own in the morning before school. Hi Jessica! Today is the first i'm getting back to a real routine of working out. The summer is winding down, out door activities and also coming to a close. I promised myself that right after Labor Day that I would start my regular exercise program, which of course include you various workouts. This 1-mile walk and talk: motivation workout was a perfect way to start back up. I turned 59 years old this past June and I want the benefit of staying strong and fit. I have you to thank for that because you are who I play consistently. You are so motivational and easy to follow, but you are also very challenging. Looking forward to staying positive and thinking good thoughts. Thank you! Ruth

Thanks for this. I was walking and didn't even realize that I was exercising. I love your videos and they are motivational and practical. They're challenging yet don't intimidate you. Thanks again!

Hi Jessica - yes! Keep it up! I really like your approach - very down-to-earth and realistic. I am grateful for the work you do and really would love to see more 1-mile Walk and Talk episodes. THANK YOU :)

Jessica thank you for this video, it was just the pick me up I needed this evening to get up and walk! My best motivational tip is to just start as soon as you can in the morning. For me, afternoon and evening workouts rarely happen. It has to be early in my day or I get too busy mothering and homeschooling my 9 children. I love the walk videos the most, so keep them coming please!

Loved this!!!! I added light hand weights and felt like a got a great workout and it just flew by! I wake up and remind myself that my health is the most important thing to nurture.. This helps me stay on track with healthy eating, exercise, and a healthy mind with inky non-toxic thoughts. I love your 20 minute workouts for weekdays when I work. Sometimes for me it's hard to fit in any workout time with work, kids, etc...but I can always get up early and do 20 mins. Peanut was so busy today! Adorable as usual. Thank you and please do more walk and talks!

This popped up at just the right time; have been having low energy all week and it's been getting me down, so this was exactly what I needed to get moving. Totally agree that something is better than nothing; making sure I take even 10 minutes to check in with and plug into my body every day has been my biggest key to staying on track. Another thing that has helped, in tandem with "something is better than nothing," is reminding myself that nothing in life is constant; everything has ups and downs, and our emotions, energy levels, and weight are no different. I've had roughly the same weight for years but it definitely fluctuates within a small range. I have to remind myself not to get frustrated and to trust that as long as I keep at it, I'll get a big run of energy again -- and, by staying active during the down time, I'll be better able to translate that energy into maximum results.

I loved this!!! It took my mind completely away from walking!! I really couldn't believe 15 minutes was up! lol What has helped me get it together is....a gallbladder flare up! After my mom passed I was eating terrible!!! Fast food everyday!! I could not bring myself to get up and go into the kitchen. Well an ER visit and almost being cut open got my booty back in the kitchen. I've lost almost 40 pounds in about 4 months (39 pounds....that one little one won't fall off! LOL) Really love your walking workouts!! Thanks!!

FEELING SO MUCH BETTER!!! That is the key to my motivation. There is such a big difference between regular exercise and doing just about nothing physically. The amazing good feelings are just the tip of the iceberg as to just how great being active on a regular basis is. Benefits now and long term!!! I am 63 years young and it works for me. Thanks so much for your workouts!!!

Thank you for another great workout!! I try to stay motivated by remembering how great I feel when I move my body, and focus on the positive changes that I have made (even if they seem small at times). Every day is a new day, don't get hard on myself if I'm not seeing any changes yet. I feel like if I focus too much on how I used to look, or looking in the mirror at my "flaws", the numbers on the scale, how my clothes fit (or don't ) I will get off track. Those things aren't always accurate. As long as I am doing the best I can to eat healthy, try to do a workout each day no matter how long, and stay positive. Don't give up!! I like this new series. Just walking like this is good for me when I need a day off from HIIT workouts, or strength training. I love walking, but sometimes due to weather and family I cannot get outside. Your walking workouts are the only ones I have found that are like this. Everything that "we" talked about today was awesome, and I totally agree with you!! It all begins in our minds! Thanks again Jessica (and Peanut) !!!! ; )

Keep Walk and Talk coming. Doing a little bit of following along while discussing helpful topics will remind and motivate me to move. Why not some chats about healthy dieting, stretching, or working through minor sickness or minor injuries.

I had promised myself to do your videos 5 days a week, but this morning I was tired and wanted to skip. I decided to look for an easy video just to keep my commitment. Your walk and talk motivational session was exactly what I needed! I even found myself doing a bit more as you talked, a few more knee lifts, a few more side-to-sides, etc. It wasn't a hard workout, but I was moving. Thanks so much for making so many varied and free videos, I can always find one to fit my mood. I love the personal touch you bring to your workouts and tell my friends it is like working out with the friend next door.

I did love this new walk and talk one mile. I love the motivational talk. I would love to have a DVD full of different one mile walks (and talks) to do at home. A person could go through them and have variety. I love the motivation and I regularly need it. I try really hard in my fitness programs and think I am doing great then for some reason I start focusing on all the ways I am not doing as much as I want to--like a perfect push-up that I have been trying to do for over a year--and still can't

I have a really bad work-life balance lately which often leaves me without energy even to do housework, let alone excercice. When I saw this video this moring I said to myself that no matter what I will get up for 10 minutes to do this video once I get home. I had another 11 hour-day at work today, but I kept my promise to myself and no I feel real good, because you are right "Something is better than nothing". I like this new series! 1 mile is a nice short distance, not too much intensity and the talk takes my mind off of it, so it is easy to be doing it after a long day of work - it becomes like a no-brainer. Thank you!

I just stumbled across this video for the first time, even though I've been doing your workouts for months. I love the concept! It makes a great warm-up for my workouts and answers my questions! The best motivation for me are progression pictures. I recently lost 20 lbs and have taken monthly photos. As intimidating as it was to take the first photos, it has been a game changer for my motivation! The photos remind me of how far I've come AND have shown my progress during times I didn't feel like I was making any! Love your videos! Thanks for being an inspiration!

Hi Jessica, I think that you should keep doing these videos! I absolutely loved it and it made the walk go by so fast! I think the biggest tip that can keep myself and others motivated is to think of the benefits that can come from working out. For example, a better mood.

I enjoyed this walk & talk video. I am not always motivated to sit and listen to your Wednesday series, but this gives me the motivation to listen while I move. My biggest motivation for working out is that it better helps me to manage my stress. I am the caregiver for our two mothers (one lives with me) and there are many days when their antics could either drive me to eat, drink or exercise. I prefer staying on this healthy living course. So my motivation is stress relief.

I always do a small workout (5-10 minutes) on my unmotivated days. I tell myself I can quit after that if I still am not into it but that almost never happens and I keep going. I also keep a workout calendar to keep track of my progress. No guilt with the blank days but huge feeling of accomplishment on the workout days. Keeping off meds and staying healthy is the biggest motivator there is. Thanks Jessica and Peanut!

Love your new Walk and Talk! I had only tired energy left after work last nite, so it was a perfect routine. I also did another walk video after that, so I had more something than nothing! Hope you continue with this program. Another topic I would love to walk and talk about is busting that weight loss plateau. Thanks for all that you do, I just love all of your programs and Peanut too:)
