It's nice being kind, but it can be hard when there are people who will try to take advantage of your kindness. So you gotta be a good judge of character and tell who deserves your kindness or not. Doubt them because not everyone is who they seem to be. And don't always stick to the "They'll eventually change" mindset because there are people who are just beyond redemption, beyond change. You think being kind will help them feel awful about themselves and try to be better but that's not always the case. :(

I highly recommend holding doors for others. I've been doing it almost nonstop since middle school (I'm in 10th grade as of writing this) and it's incredible how simple yet meaningful and inspirational to others that is. I've had teachers let dress code violations slide and watched others hold nearby doors for people when they see me doing the same, all while getting "thank you"s faster than I can respond to. Whenever I lose my faith in humanity, this simple interaction always brings it back. On another note, being deaf and having high functioning autism and ADHD, I practically owe my life to my parents and the army of people they raised (at their weakest financial state, no less) to help me become who I am today. I've been trying my hardest to return the favor, and am ecstatic that I matched most of the signs :)

Well done! That’s a great comment, it’s refreshing to here how grateful you are for the life lessons you received from others. Although give yourself credit, you can explain and install these ideas into your children but not all people do this or understand how important it is. I have raised my boys to be polite and respectful, to always help others, say thank you and express their appreciation. They are such wonderful young men and I’m incredibly proud of them. As little boys they would always say thank you to the people serving us in stores etc and they would respond in shock at how impressed and greatful they were to hear that coming from a little kid kindness catches the same way rudeness and disrespect does. A smile and kind gesture goes a long way and I’m so very proud of you. Well done x

Sometimes being kind-hearted gets to the point where everyone starts to want something from you. Don't be so kind that you start to resent others. Don't say yes so often that people start using your good nature to get what they want from you. I made that mistake in my childhood and adolescence. Although I was willing to help my classmates out with whatever they needed, it eventually got to the point where they started to take advantage of my kind-hearted nature, ranging from wanting to copy off my homework to making me buy things for them. My inability to reject their favors caused me to resent them.

The greatest kindness I've ever been shown was during middle school. Where, right after some boys dunked my head into a toilet bowl of my own poop, a girl looked after me and lent me her gym clothes to wash and clean up. She ignored the way I smelled, she ignored what had happened, she didn't ask any questions, and she didn't have any hint of pity in her eyes or body language. She, an absolute stranger at the time, squatted down and took care of me. Real kindness shows. Don't watch the video and check off boxes because you've found yourself in these situations. And calling yourself kind looks a little bit shallow. Many of the worst people I've been around would call themselves many things but they never were.

It’s nice to be or be with a kind-hearted person. Certain aspects of them are quite desirable, like being objective. However, as for doing things not for personal gain, I don’t think such a thing always applies. Constantly working to earn money for others, for example, somewhat removes the privilege of enjoying the hard-earned money for oneself (such as buying a new video game).
@danbridges47553 жыл бұрын

@Adrian Castañeda Oh yeah, now I remember what I meant. It’s like a worker that needs to send money to their family (probably like overseas Filipino workers) in order to help it survive, so they can’t just keep the money for themselves lest they be seen as cold-hearted. (Also, I don’t know what capitalist really is. I’ll search it, I guess.) What I meant is like this: a person who always does things for others but never for themselves (the idea of which is how I understood the section in the video) would not allow the person to enjoy life for themselves. I am also realizing that the video mentions later on that kind-hearted people still value themselves, so they won’t always be doing things for others (in the sense that I pointed out).

I've always dome my best to be kind to people. I do tease people I know affectionately but I let them know if they don't like my jokes to let me know, because I always feel terrible if I hurt someone's feelings. I'm known as the girl who never stops smiling, I'm happy and want to spread happiness to others. I always try to listen to and understand people. I'm the kind of person who is playfully competitive but wants to make sure both of us are having fun, like when I play against someone at Mario Kart. I was always confused by people who were mean, I'd ask my parents "why would anyone want to be mean, all it does is hurt others and make you feel bad, why would anyone want to feel bad?" I just assumed that everyone felt bad about being mean, I was shocked and confused to find not everyone felt bad after being mean. The idea of harming others deliberately seems so alien to me, I always assume others are like me, which isn't always true. I do think though 99.9% of people are wonderful and we live in a world full of hope a future of possibilities. I try to make friends with everyone, even if I don't always succeed.

I can see myself in this video that I am kind hearted. Its from working as a customer service representative for 12 years and counting. I am taught to listen before speaking, understanding rather than just hearing what other people tell, empathy over sympathy, being sincere in your solutions and going the extra miles to resolve the issue, and a HUGE HEAP of patience as well! With these in mind, I keep myself on judging people based on first hand experience. Also, to think that both sides needs to be heard first before judging. If my order in a fast food restaurant is a bit wrong, I pass on complaining because that person my get fired If I complain (unless its really, really messed up order). Kindness is a great trait but a lot of people severely abuse it. That's why kindness should not be shown so easily. Also, I care more about cats rather than people. Great video as well!
@0sarah02 жыл бұрын
I had watched a video once, and learnt an important lesson that all of you should be aware of, that kindness and niceness are different things. You might be always nice to other people, but sometimes while doing that you are not nice to yourself. Being kind would mean you don't hurt anyone including yourself, and confront people if you feel they are hurting you in some way. So, be kind people, not nice! Btw I'm myself not the best advice-giver as I've not had much experience, but at least knowing this is better than knowing nothing!

i believe my kindness was manifested unconsciously mostly due to the video games i've played while growing up. Majora's mask, Mother 3, and now recently, Omori. Not only from those games, but also from the amount of times I had to reconcile with my first best friend. I'm Very lucky to have had such positive influences in my life to keep my spirit of kindness alive after several traumatic experiences in my school life. My Best friend had to move away, and due to some unfortunate misinterpretations, our past school buddies all ganged up on me when i couldn't articulate my feelings properly. which followed me all the way tell the starting of highschool. Not to mention i've been lied to in a multitude of relationships. It's amazing I was able to relearn to trust others so quickly without needing much help from professionals. But despite everything, I still follow my heart throughout life and be as kind and respectful as i can to others. Life does get better, and as you yourself gets better. You'll be impressed just how much your heart has flourished.

I don’t know about 3 and to a lesser extent 6 (because in practice I do judge a bit) but all in all I’d say I’m fundamentally good-hearted. But if you take too much advantage of it I’m going to stop being nice with you after a while and I do think people in general could do with not actually turning the other cheek to people who don’t necessarily deserve their kindness. Nice video.

3:38 "You keep all your thoughts and opinions aside and listen attentively" This is indeed a good trait, but on some occasions, I've heard that this can be interpreted as having low self-esteem and -confidence. I have a hard time disproving this point and I think there is somewhat of a balancing act when sharing each others' perspectives during a conversation. But putting others before yourself is rarely a bad thing.

What's ironic is how I try everyday to be kind, but I think I'm hurt to the point where it's incredibly difficult to do so. What makes matters worse is that I hate myself so much that I end up convincing myself that I'll never be able to be kind, and that I'll always be some sort of monster and end up hurting everyone around me no matter how hard I try

I just go my way. but they try to drag me to the side but I just walk away without any hesitation. with judgments, I just keep opinions, and thoughts to myself. I always treat others with respect even if it’s at school. I always like to understand others even when they are venting. I am trustworthy so a lot of people count on me I try to value you myself. I think I am sometimes kind and sometimes not. I PARTIALLY relate to most signs. Basically, I try to be kind to people who respect and accept me. I can also be really mean to people who are mean to me. My goal is to be kind to those who reciprocate, which I think is normal for most people.
@aniashie3 жыл бұрын
I relate to some of these signs, but I don’t think I’m genuinely kind hearted since I usually don’t act nice to people, it’s probably because I’m in a bad mood, people are rude to me first, etc. I guess I could say I am kind-hearted but I only show it to people who deserve it. Then again, before I was very genuinely kind hearted, though I never showed anyone this kindness and no one thought I had it since I was very lonely. As I grew older, people kept using my kindness and shyness to their advantage aka being a pushover and I had enough of that. So I started acting rude, it’s probably because I don’t want to get used and mistreated. But sometimes my rudeness gets too extreme even I am aware of that. So, I guess I could say I am just nice to people who treat me well and deserve it. I don’t know why I typed this all out, but if you read this all then I thank you,
@Lurker19913 жыл бұрын
Some people should really try to internalize, what saying "What goes around, comes around" might mean when they are rude to others. Rudeness will bite back sooner or later. Being kind at least should result in getting kindness back, though it does seem like two hardest words to say between people are "thank you". And I guess it's boundary of sorts to not let people be total ass at you for being kind. Some people just doesn't deserve kindness back at them. I can't really say that I am truly kindhearted person because of seeing one too many times that kindness is seen as weakness for some reason and people trying to abuse that. And one reason for typing would be that sometimes its best to let out thoughts, put them into words and all that, giving fresh air and time to think on those thoughts instead of bottling them up can result in some sort of realization or enlightment even.

Videos about kindness always remind me of this guy in high school who said I was selfish. Why? Because being kind makes *me* feel good, so my kindness is a means for selfish gains lol Needless to say I discovered soon after he was using me for my knowledge of things he was trash at :) I'm glad I learnt that lesson in high school and not later in life~

*I SO DESPERATELY NEEDED THIS!* Not letting people walk all over me and valuing myself are tough ones. Living with a toxic person often makes me flip sides from time to time. So just the fact that I can go from one to the other shows that my true nature can come through when it's allowed and available. Although I may take sides when it comes to genuinely bad people, I still hope that one day, even if some kind of an afterlife that they would heal and find genuine love and happiness instead of a life of extreme punishment, or one of constant denial or incapacity to see the bad ways they harm others and themselves. If no afterlife, at least perpetual rest is better than them living to hurt others and to continue down a path of destruction and harm to themselves. Though, I think I may be a people pleaser *and* a genuinely kind person! Quite a freaky combination!!!
