Another 4 months has gone by since my last Ashes of Creation update video so today, I’m gonna recap the past 4 development livestreams for the people who casually follow the project and don’t have time to tune in to the hour+ long livestreams each month.
In this video we’ll cover the Ashes Alpha 2 Ranger Combat Update, The Caravan PVP Gameplay Showcase, The Commissions Preview And The Orc Fighter Class Overview.
We're only a few months away from Ashes Of Creation Alpha 2 Release Date where the game will finally be playable again, so expect one more of these updates before we can finally enjoy this highly ambitious upcoming MMORPG.

Ashes Of Creation is a colossal MMORPG attempting to provide fans of PVP, PVE and Roleplay an everchanging world and the ultimate MMO experience, the game will have the following:
9 different playable races both with male and female options.
1200 square kilometer world size at launch, 85 Nodes in the world, EVERY Resource you see is gatherable just like in New World.
Fully open world game where you can go from one size of the map to the other no loading screens.
Dungeons, Raids, World Bosses, Open World PVP with a criminal system, Caravan PVP, castle sieges, node sieges, arenas, duels, guild wars, crafting and artisan system, monster coin events, political system, citizenship, player run shops, taverns with parlor games, top tier character customization, transmog cosmetic collection, 64 different class combinations, 3 different forms of player housing both open world and instanced, achievements, leaderboards, gathering, questing, hybrid combat system, player driven economy with localized storage, pets, massive guild system with guild halls, both land and water mounts and 18 different biomes in the world.
Ashes started development back in 2016 in Unreal Engine 4 however at the end of 2021 upgraded its engine to Unreal 5 to make use of the latest advancements in gaming tech such as nanite, lumen and a more efficient development pipeline, In terms of funding the game was successfully kickstarted in 2017 however the vast majority of the games funding comes from creative director Steven Sharif, a successful entrepreneur who like most of us has been a lifelong MMO fan that was unhappy with the current state of the MMORPG genre, Ashes Of Creation is fully funded to completion and despite offering paid access to Alpha and Beta tests is not reliant on these funds to finish development.
This game will have zero pay to win, a cosmetic only cash shop with no convenience items and a $15 per month subscription fee business model with no box cost.
A sand park MMO is basically a hybrid of theme park and sandbox, there’s a lot of player driven content however there’s also developer curated scripted encounters such as raids and dungeons…This is the category of MMO that Ashes Of Creation falls into and personally It’s my favorite type of MMORPG.

@@user-hk5fs8re6z nah they make very little after you take salaries, overheads, replacements/repairs etc. into consideration. plus you need an a reasonably large operating budget to procure parts ahead of time. so easy to put together a PC now it's hard to believe it's a popular service. one of the better options if you really want a prebuilt though imo.

Only reason it's my last hope is it's the one closest to release that is not afraid to actually revolutionize the genre with newer game mechanics. I'm curious to see how the node system and PvE content that comes with it plays out with PvP. No MMORPG in the past has been able to successfully combine an enjoyable experience by mixing both pve and pvp into the same area.That's why you always end up with instances (separate zones) not part of the actual gaming world with battlegrounds, arenas, and dungeons. How is Ashes going to deal with this? Because if there is one thing I hate, it's how pvp mostly devolves into people attacking me while I'm involved in some kind of pve encounter and there is zero chance of me being able to do anything about it.

I know this is subjective but I think its art style is relatively unappealing and does not have a big series name like ff14 to offset that. @@granthse Do you know anything about Ashes at all? It's not doing more of the same in any way. It's extremely unique. Of course it won't do it for some people because a lot of people can't be happy with anything. They'll just continue to play WoW or FF because that's what they like and nothing will ever compare. Ashes is going to popular though because they are making a good game and combat looks fun. That is all the game really needs.

The repairing of the caravan and when it converts into a raft should not be a slow moving timer, in most cases there will be no battles and you will just sit there and wait and, not immersive. At the building site should be box to pick up special tools, gathered wood and stuff with those tools are able to be deposited and the progress bar will move. Thats how this should function in my opinion.

There definitely needs to be either a criminal bounty system or some reason to make attacking caravans less free, otherwise a basic function of the game will never work as intented due to overraiding

there is a corruption system in game when you kill other players. I think too much corruption and you shouldn't be able to enter major cities and towns, only have "bandit havens" those players can interact with. Wouldn't punish pvp gankers too much. But enough to where its more difficult to interact with the rest of the community.

There will be a bounty system, but that will be for hunting down corrupted players mostly from what I understand. Basically anti griefing mechanic. The caravans are intended as one of the PVP focuses. There will be open world PVP but the game isn't intended to make the player run around fighting to scratch the PVP itch. There will be systems connected to the caravans for attackers and defenders. I can see guilds being known as caravan raiders getting focused by other guilds for wars so there will be a cost.

The caravan system seems extremely tedious. I could imagine it being fun a couple times, but once the newness wears off it's just going to be another one of those things you're expected to do to remain competitive.

It's basically capture the flag reversed. instead of focusing on speed and offense, it's focused on durability and defense. Groups who are cohesive and preplanned will have a huge advantage, thus promoting guilds as well.

Why would anyone want to guard a caravan instead of raiding a caravan. If everyone attacks caravans no one will make caravans. If caravans are too easy to defend no one will attack caravans, and caravans will simply become an obnoxious waste of time.

If the goal is to destroy the wagon rather than capture it, then why not use a ballista? Then there need to be more defenses. I can see this mechanism evolving into a running siege. Considering that in ESO chasing down a scroll carrier can turn into an impromptu server-wide event complete with ambushes, zergs and Ballistas, there's a lot Intrepid can do with this

I mean as much as I've loved how down to earth and all the updates we get on Ashes. The combat still looks so bad... In an MMO if what you're doing 90% of the time doesn't feel good then people won't play. I'm glad they're doing remasters and tweaks to make classes feel/look better but I think theres still a long way to go. It still looks so archaic. A lot of the warrior/fighter skills we saw here are pretty decent but still doesn't feel quite right somehow.

It's not going to happen in an MMO. At least not like this one. You were amazed by MMOs because you used them to talk to communicate with people in a novel way online. They are no longer necessary or even desirable as such a vehicle anymore. The next great MMO which will create those experiences for a new generation will happen when they finally perfect VR, as that is the next communication frontier.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie it's impressive what they've done. But things like having to wait 5 minutes for a caravan, or watching a 5 minute process of you waiting for a raft to be built might be cool for the first time.. but after the 3rd time that crap is going to get so tedious and no ones gonna want to play the game. Also the graphics.. if the game is so hard to run that you're going to have to have a very high end PC then that makes the game already insignificant and not accessable for 90% of gamers

But what about the other 95% of PC users who don't have the best of hardware who just want to play a game, they wont even be able to run it. This graphics issue is going to have a good 95% of players out of the cut by default.

@@coadamolx0100 You’re criticizing this person but the crux of their sentiment is correct. This game can never reach the success levels of mmos like WoW or FFXIV if it isn’t more widely accessible. WoW got so big because pretty much everyone could play it even with garbage 2004 PCs. Ffxiv gained dominance by being well optimized and available on consoles as well. You just need to look at the facts to know that Ashe will struggle to find success no matter what the game is like because of how the devs have built the game and the exclusivity to people with PCs that can run it.

Def a minority. People want graphics. People want spells that look good. Doesn't have to be Lost Ark over the top, but muted would be a bad call imo. It's graphics are really the only thing that set this MMO apart for me. It it was muted or had a different art style all together I wouldn't even be interested personally.

"People want graphics" That's what all the AAA game developers seem to think, and I'd argue it's why there is this rift happening between players and AAA games. It's why indies are thriving. I'd rather my games be niche rather than generic.

Why not make it automatically loot everything and never have to pick anything up yourself? This philosophy is what lead to the WoW we have today that is a shell of its former glory.

Nobody has mentioned that the Node systems breaks the golden rule of mmos. Don’t let real life influence the game. With how the node system works Streamers like Asmongold and other Content creators will have a substantial amount of power over the game world and everyone else will just have to deal with it because they don’t have the same real world influence.

This was one of my thoughts as well, way back when info on the system was first released. Anyone that doesn't already have a (large) audience is basically never going to have any sort of chance at controlling major nodes. A lot of it will eventually come down to "which streamer/content creator can convince the most followers to do X."

I mean... They will have more power than the average person, but its a lot more complicated than that. Asmongold has a lot of followers but they are a legion of mindless thralls who couldn't boil a pot of water. They'll never get anywhere. Streamer guilds (essentially zerg guilds) are disorganized messes that'll collapse fairly quickly. Such renowned positions requires a level of coordination on a scale beyond just a couple of buddies. Most people will probably never control a major node, even without streamers.

@@drooskie9525 The main point is, if someone like Asmongold plays regularly and decides to go for a node, and tells his followers to vote for him... even a very small percentage of those followers will likely be enough to get him the win. Unless he's contesting a node with another streamer, he would almost always be able to win whatever node he wants. The same could be said of just about any streamer of decent size: with the exception of perhaps some guild leaders, Random Streamer X is likely going to be able to easily rally more support than any "normal" player. Especially once most of the initial hype wears off, and the playerbase starts getting cut down to its long-term population, any medium/large streamers will pretty much consistently be at the top easily.

As an MMORPG player since the mid-90s, I'm for the most part done with this genre. It's a young person's game; those people with the time and availability to dedicate their lives to playing it. Adults? People with jobs, ambitions, and responsibilities? Nope. Plus, there's such a large portion of people coming into any new MMORPG who have already played it for possibly years before the general audience has, either because of Early Access or Streaming Access, and they in turn share every bit of info ahead of release, which ruins the magic of mystery and discovery by the general player base. But I could say that about any game, any genre, really---product of our current culture with giving so folks early access to titles. But I digress.

I cant believe that gw2 still has the most fluid animations and best character controller till now, even the f aoc that is being created in 2024 is still choppy and laggy and doesnt cover all movement states and slides on floor and have very minor flaws in animations that are just not present in gw2 at all. because AoC is still in development? gw2 went into development in 2006 and released in 2012 so theyve essentially had 18 years to make their animations smooth. AoC is still being made and improved so calm down and wait for the game to come out. its not a finished product yet.

I'm just not sold because to me it looks their references are other mmos like wow that arent really known for these things. Theres something called "foot ik" and turning animations, directional speeds that are just not implemented properly and i dont have confidence that it will be. Btw these are technical game dev terms so if someone asks devs directly they will know at once what im talking about.

New World combat is head and shoulders better. Well at least the melee combat is. I understand it isn't as good for say Life Staff (Healing) but I never had a problem with it, and with Bow and Musket it feels like an FPS. My only complaint with New World's combat was I always felt it need another 2 (at least) combat skills.

It was always meant to be primarily player driven, right? so obviously a main form of player driven interaction is pvp. I love Archeage, the only reason I quit was the bad gear progression and the cash shop. Like Archeage, for AoC, most likely the meat of the content will either be pvp fighting over resources, or other content which funnels into the economy like life skills and monster farming etc. Sounds like a grand time to me.

@@smiIingman While I do agree the game is massively overhyped, the devs have never tried to play the game off as anything but a PvP game. They likely don't discuss the PvP much in their update videos because A) they assume everyone already knows it's a PvP-focused game, and B) most of the PvP elements aren't actually in the game yet, so they don't really have many updates specifically for that yet. I do think that a lot of potential players will be disappointed in the game, though. That being said, realistically speaking, Ashes "succeeding" doesn't mean it has to have millions of players, and I don't think the devs have realistically considered that sort of playerbase as a long-term prospect. With the subscription fee and all the cosmetics they sell, the game could easily be a financial success with something like 100-200k consistent players, and probably even less.

I've for some reason never been excited for this one BUT the ones I have been excited for I never really liked so I will try either way. This one looks the closest to WoW combat along with Tarisland so it will probably be one of these 2 for me but I feel every new MMORPG so far doesn't do it for me. I sadly do think it says something how many individual times I've entirely forgotten this game is in development. I am all for a game taking it's time in development, but AoC seems to completely fall out of memory for very large periods of time, and sadly I think this could negatively affect it's player numbers once it's finally released. The combination of some people being hyped up far beyond reasonable expectations and people completely forgetting about it could be disastrous at launch and for a period after.

The ranger and fighter class look so much better now. I remember mage and priest combat skills and effects looking wonky in the past showcases I've seen. I hope they've improved that. The fight bit also looks like it could be fun. The combat is all I care about in this game so they really need to nail it. I'm glad from what is shown they seem to be getting there.

You know, personally i've been following the project since 2017 and put about 500 dollars into it in 2020. I have one big gripe when ashes is mentioned anywhere and its people memeing about it taking so long. On the one end you have MMO's that launch and are TERRIBLE at release or lack any endgame content (New world). Then people proceed to complain saying they should've taken their time and added on another year or two of development. Then this game comes along, takes a very long time to develop because they want to do it right from the get-go and people complain about it taking too long. Like what the fck do you want? This is literally one of the last promising MMORPG's in development right now. Just shut up and let them cook damnit.
