I think it is an important one to have though. For example offering the question, why we are so obsessed with the heroic idea of saving one dog from a fire (which will probably never happen in any of our lives), when we could prevent hundreds if not thousands of unnecessary deaths right here and right now. I think ones readiness to save one specific animal in some absurd scenario where moral right and wrong is clearly labeled is not a good marker for if you're a "good person". I think your ability to choose mercy and compassion when you have literally no other incentive to do so or in fact might even be punished for doing so, is a much more important marker.

Thomas Shelby is a very calm, calculating character but loses composure at times. They don't realize the depression and ptsd depicted in the film. As someone who deals with that it was refreshing to see mental health tackled in the show. From the first episode with the bro who is shot with sheep's blood to Arthur losing himself to rage and killing his boxing opponent to Tommy just breaking down throughout the series yet still surviving. Also having ptsd, anxiety and depression sucks. Hyper vigilance doesn't make you tough. It makes it hard to relax around people.

I’m 4 months late to this, but many guys have always wanted to feel important and cool and the whole alpha sigma stuff gives them that mindset. As it spreads though, it morphs and the original “focus on your goals and be a better you; you’re not like everyone else” is taken differently. I’m a big fan of staying calm, but I’d say the main thing my anger is a danger to is like… the fundamental soundness of my relationships. I grew up in a family that argued in a very hurtful manner, so I got very good at instantaneously brainstorming statements I can use to make the people I’m closest to sad. And like… that’s not helpful. Like… either you say it, and you don’t really mean it, but now you’ve sewn a seed of doubt in your loved one’s mind; or you do really mean it, but like, if so, maybe this is just not a relationship that’s good to continue, so why are you even having this argument? But yeah, I don’t think I’d say I’m more dangerous than a nuclear weapon. Cause the main peril here is me ending up alone, or just everyone ending up sad and bitter? Which, like… not great, but not as bad as “instantly vaporized or dying of radiation sickness / cancer or stricken with PTSD”. That said, I’m a woman, so I probably just don’t get it.

I like how one of the tips to be like Tommy Shelby is "Be calm", when Tommy's one of the least calm characters on TV. He has at least a dozen freak outs on the show where he starts shouting and screaming at people. Even when he's quiet, he looks like he's just barely holding in another rant. Tldr: Mr "No fucking fighting!" Is not a poster child for calm.
