I'm actually laughing out loud right now, "Maybe you should just try it once and see if you like it". I was a virgin until I was 23, I knew I was asexual, but everyone in my life at the time were in relationships and kept telling me how much I was "missing out". So I tried it, a few times actually, all doing it did for me was confirm what I already knew. I don't know how David Jay didn't laugh in Tuckers face.

I realise that it's been a month, I just want to say this. The reason we have awareness groups and sites is to allow sexuals to research asexuality and attempt to get a grip on what it's about, it's not always about us yelling about our sexuality; it's sometimes about educating others so they will not abuse us or ridicule us when we do "come out" as asexuals. We need people to know that asexuality is not a condition, it's not a symptom of something and that it's not a problem.
@aja895012011 жыл бұрын
It can be difficult sometimes to try and figure out your sexuality, especially if it "doesn't exist" to most people. Setting up this website, and essentially bringing a whole community into the light, was probably very difficult on many levals. I really admire and respect him for showing the world that we do exist and allowing us and others to find a safe place to learn about asexuality. And I thank you for understanding that one doesn't have to do something to know they won't like it.

@CustoopMoon Being asexual doesn't make you "neither straight or gay". Asexuals can be straight or gay or bi. They can find people of one gender attractive, and not the other. It's just not sexual attraction, it's more about aesthetics and personalities. (At least that's how I understand it.) He can be a ladies man if he dates a lot of women and/or if a lot of women like him.
@Kotifilosofi4 жыл бұрын
I think it's important to establish asexuality as independent sexual orientation. Some romantic orientations other than aromantic might be included, yet, you're ace and not "half-gay, half-bi" etc. If you say you're "ace + something", it will just confuse people since sexual attraction is included (moreover romantic and other types of attractions) to labels such as "gay, straight, bi, pan...". Maybe it's just nitpicking, but I believe things such as this contribute to the ace-erasure everywhere.
@muraalia4 жыл бұрын
@@Kotifilosofi Hello, so, I wrote that 8 years ago :D and can't find the comment I was apparently replying to. Hard to say what I was really arguing for or about. It seems I wasn't even aware of the term romantic attraction at the time. . Anyway, I agree, it's important to acknowledge and establish asexuality as it's own orientation. It's just that if you're talking only about asexuality, for allosexuals sex and love are often so deeply linked that they can easily jump right to "so you're incapable of love", and that isn't helping either. Or, as my last sentence there seems to imply, someone was questioning how an asexual could be a ladies' man. Of course he can, being a ladies' man doesn't even explicitly mean having sex or sexual attration, just liking the company of ladies and ladies liking him back. . Explaining romantic attraction to others can confuse them, yes, maybe because for most people sexual and romantic goes together so they've never needed to think about them separately. So when trying to be informative, it's better to use more specific terms like biromantic asexual instead of bi ace or whatever I was saying back then. :D It was a good nitpick.
@Kotifilosofi4 жыл бұрын
@@muraalia thanks for the quick and profound reply! Tbh, I didn't even expect you to answer after all these years, but seeing your comment being so high in the comment section, I decided to give also this perspective, in hopes that some people will see it as well :D You're right, people can interpret asexuality as "loveless", while if combined with straight, gay etc, it can be interpreted as still something to do with sexual attraction. As you said, (romantic) love and sexual attraction are just so inseparate to most people, that it's hard for them to even see how one could exist without the other. In fact, I think we simply lack vocabularly (and public awareness) to ever be able to express asexual and aromantic orientations without probable danger of misunderstandings and confusion. Maybe something like "gayrom ace, straightrom ace" etc. would be more comprehensive than smashing words of two sexual orientations together? However, I think it will be helpful in the future if we rise discussion like this today :)
@muraalia4 жыл бұрын
@@Kotifilosofi No problem, I spend way too much time on youtube and almost always reply to people :D And with this, it's good to talk about these things every once in a while. Now I'm just wondering why my comment would be placed so high on here, it only has nine likes... KZbin is weird. Yeah, the vocabulary currently is a bit, hmm, clunky. I'm sure the language around this will continue to evolve, and hopefully awareness and understanding of different orientations along with it. It would be nice to get to a point where we can just say a thing without having to embark on a long explanation of what the words mean. Btw, nimestä päätellen suomalainen? Moikka :D

Anyhow, I think we shouldn't lose hope but keep discussing, even if it can feel exhausting and frustrating at times. I can't pinpoint as to whether Tucker Carlson was just trying to play the devil's advocate and trying to get David Jay to talk or if he is just an honest, sloby, piece of shit who has no respect for other people's sexual orientations. I mean what he said can be interpreted as both acephobic and homophobic all simultaneously especially when he lectured Jay that he would have to have sex in order to have children. Like, whatever happened to the phrase 'there's more than one way to skin a cat?' Or how I would phrase it 'there's more than one way to participate in animal cruelty.' (that's the cynical side of my humor.) And then you have the statement that you have to have sex in order to know that you don't like it. First of all that is what I like to refer to as societal rape. Where people who you are socially interacting with are telling you that you need to have sex because it's normal or that it's good for you. No one should have sex based off of pure pressure. And societal rape is so tricky because it's a form of rape that you are guaranteed to get away with. Because that is a form of invisible rape.

I've got to say, of all the groups you could be part of that could potentially make someone uncomfortable or make them distrust you in some way, asexuals seem like they would be at the very bottom of that list. In fact, it seems like you could trust asexuals more than non-asexual people to be honest and straightforward, significantly more. So much of human behavior is motivated by sexuality, it would be a relief not to have to deal with it frankly.

I think people who DO 'try out' things do so because they have, not only a wee bit of intelelctual curiosity, but also SOME amount of interest/urge. People are not forcing themselves to 'try gay' because they think they SHOULD, even if they have no desire to do so at all.
