A session on a small selection of Victorian weapons. Follow your local possession / carry laws, reasonable force and proportionality. Video primarily intended for historical reference with historical weapons
NOTE: weapons are dangerous. Some types may be illegal to own or carry where you live around the world. These videos are primarily designed to provide a historical flavour of how things may have worked, or were taught / used. The onus is always on you to know the law and the repercussions as it applies to you. Train safely and responsibly.

The blackjack is always a good way to change the dynamics up a bit, I keep a small blackjack and a knife on me when I go out, if the blackjack gets out of my grip the knife comes out, better to be at court then ending up in a coffin or a urn. Being a Yank and having made frequent trips to the UK, specifically East London, I go no where without my cane. Buy an Oak one with a large crook and you are able to do disarms and arm traps with it. Best self defense direct impact tool ever. Length of it gives you time /distance tactics and you can go through any airport in the world with it without even a second glance.Training videos are prolific so get some. Serious stuff this because all the thugs are carrying knives and it's gotten out of control with the stabbings in London.... Just for further info for my American dopes, any altercation WILL result in jail time, ala Knicked as they say, WHETHER YOU WERE THE VICTIM OR NOT. The Law really doesn't care what the truth is and they aren't going spend their limited resources to find it. Best course of action is to strike elbows ,arms , legs and RUN. For a drama free week or two, do yourself a favor and DO NOT report it unless you have to.Pack an extra couple cans of common sense and don't be afraid to open them. Leave the "See it, Say it, Sorted " stuff for the locals.... No witnesses , no serious injuries = no crime.....Bobbies have better things to do anyway, they are absolutely overwhelmed.....Be polite, Be safe, keep aware of your surroundings, don't look like a damn tourist and absolutely know where the Loo is after having Indian take away.... Peace.

@captain crankypants Well I’ve had my share of Indian both there and here in the States but I have to say Brick Lane London is the best that can be had. Best SD impact tool? Maybe! Here's some issues I have. 1-NOT all Americans are dopes, so as YOU stated, please be polite. 2-The best weapon hands down is situational awareness. If your not aware of what's around you, it's probably to late anyway, which brings me to #3-Distance for anyone who knows how to fight is an art in itself, if your not aware of what's around you, you may end up being choked out by your own weapon. Hence an unseen attack from behind, or misplaced first strike.

I became a copper in America in 1976. At that time I was given a “demon dong” this was a round lead weight on the end of a spring covered with leather With a thong on it.. you used it just as you demonstrated this.. I carried this in my left back pocket, (some of the guys had pants with a pocket in them to carry a slapper) I got attacked by a dog and hit it once with the demon dong and killed it cold dead .. it was biting one second and dead the next.. A note on straps.. you don’t actually put straps around your wrist.. The strap loops over your thumb then goes around the back of your hand where you then grab the striking device .. this gives you control of the weapon and it is difficult to lose or be pulled away but you can release it if it looks like you are going to be trapped by the weapon. It doesn’t sound right but try it. The strap hooked on the thumb and pulled around the hand actually makes your grip on the striking weapon tighter... I just subscribed..

Zwykła dłuższa średniej grubości skarpeta, a w niej jedna, lub dwie piłki do golfa ze znalezieniem, których nie było żadnych trudności. The Brodie or palm sap is an excellent weapon of surprise. There are stories of American policemen having the ability to render people unconscious with a simple slap. It's a weapon that your opponent doesn't know about until it's far too late. The model I own is of a different design with a small block of steel in the business end. It can't be used for punching but for open handed strikes it's very potent. Anyway, excellent information. You have a new subscriber.

i keep a stout leather tag about 6 inches long on my keychain for this exact purpose, when i taught karate i realized that the average people i was teaching wouldn't carry something like a blackjack or a "sap" as i call them (had a granddad who carried a sap in the police for 35 years) or even carry a knife. but being able to use your keys in a similar manor to this (like a flail) can really tip the odds in your favor. Also i have never drawn any suspicion to myself when I've had to enter a government building or an airplane with my special "Keychain"!

The Brodie is a finger sap. They have been around since forever, but they never really caught on. The palm sap is vastly superior and used to be standard for cops in my area back in the bad old days. It was popular because one-shot knockouts were not hard to pull off, and since there was no closed fist and the weapon is hard to spot it just looked like the officer slapped the suspect.

In regards to the "Brock", Take an 8 or 9 ounce fishing weight, and place it in the center of a square cotton bandana. Fold the bandana to make a triangle. Then start rolling the weight until you wind up with a "tube" of bandana wit the weight in the middle. Fold the bandana. To use just grab the two "tails and use just exactly like your Brock. With my method, if the need to get rid of the weapon exists, shake the fishing weight out into your hand, and either sling it across the parking lot, or toss it into the roof of a conveniently placed building. Fold you bandana into a neat square and place it in your back pocket. "Wait ! What ? Is that the sound of police sirens getting closer? Time to put on my "innocent bystander" face."

Much as I like saps, blackjacks, and slungshots saying they are "for self defense today" comes with some enormous caveats. In many jurisdictions simple possession is a crime. In others you can own, but carrying it brings you to the attention of the police. In the UK you will absolutely go up the steps for carrying an offensive weapon. And even if it's legal you are not going to pass the all-important Police Attitude Test. That said, they're excellent weapons.

Thanks to their weigthed and flexible construction, they hit much harder than a wooden club or truncheon. They a quick, have devastating power, and are easy to conceal and deploy. So they were prefered to solid clubs for that. You can parry and grapple with a club, they are tools for fighting, but this one you cannot, they are tools for hitting, but most people wanted to hit,not fight.

I think that they are all illegal in Germany and probably a whole lot of other countries... I grew up there and saw quite a bunch of weapons. Folding knives were by far the most common. During my childhood balisong were a status symbol and bicycle chains were more often used in brawls (stolen from bikes at schools forcing their owners to walk home) and so were glass bottles... Real criminals loved telescopic batons and knuckle dusters and when they meant business, they came with baseball bats, big knives and machetes. Some people also improvised jacks akin to a _lock in a sock_ (I heard of an incident with a handbag full with stones! And another case with a big hex nut on a shirt rope). The weirdest weapons I've personally seen was a walking stick and a woman with spikes in her hair... Personally, I've been threatened with balisong, razor, an iron rod, and a rapier (stolen from the parties hosts dad's room).

the problem is: you have to explain why the other guy is destroyed and you are harmless. When the lawyer shows the pictures in court of blood and blue eyes, you will have a lot to do to prove you are "the good guy", think is better the Pepper Spray, It works against many foes and in 30 minutes only red eyes and dropping noses are left

Problem is mace and similar sprays are, I believe still illegal for the public to own and carry around. I have seen other sprays that spray a gel of some colour that will stain for a few days, so I think those are the alternatives which hopefully will buy time to flee any attacker.

@@fwcolb I can’t even fathom a life without “real” weapons. My Dad, me, my son have known how to safely handle edged weapons and guns before we started school...hunting and processing game is just a way of life for us. Getting older then of course we learned how to use those same tools/weapons/knives/firearms to protect ourselves and our families.

It would be nice if you could tell who used these weapons... police, detectives, street fighters or ?
@TommyMooreww2combatives

To be quite honest in Victorian England, all 3! There was a big industry at the time of street defence / offence weapons. Often what you carried was related to your social station too. A gentleman might have a lead weight cane, a dock worker may have had a weighted rope (slung shot / monkey fist), a criminal looking to stun, rob and run would likely have picked a blackjack, a police officer was liable to have a truncheon and potentially a sap

I just used a bike chain..with a padlock in one end if necessary 😅 totally legal to carry the chain in your jacket pocket but if the padlock is in contact with it that's illegal if you're out in the world. Personally never even used the padlock the bike chain gave two robbers a night to recover I mean remember... I lived in a shit neighbourhood so that chain was always inside the right side pocket of my m65 jacket button already open the padlock on the left side of course so they were never in contact but that chain as melee weapon was way to brutal so I've been looking for something hmh softer 😂

@@TommyMooreww2combatives, five years ago, I was using a cane while recovering of a knee dislocation. I was surrounded by three felons just after exit a drugstore (I bought analgesics to my pain). The felon at the middle was hit in the solar plexus by the cane point (like a bayonet thrust) and fell on the ground. The orhers ran away.
