Thanks for the new exercises, it is always worth trying to fix the situation. I always tried to walk as much as I could, even though it was very irregular because I compensated a lot of movement. I slowly realized irregularities and corrected with the help of Tara's tips. It is a long and painstaking job, because the changes are small but the results confirm that it makes sense to follow the recommendations of an experienced PT, so thank you Tara again and a pleasant week.

This is very good information. I will definitely be using these techniques. This helps me understand the situation I am in. L Foot Drop, plus muscular atrophe and neuropathy in both lower legs. Fully regained use of R leg and foot following cerebral aneurysm 14 years ago. My balance has been bad ever since and I have been using a Quad cane. Looking forward to the day that I can toss it away! 🥇

I think you’re amazing. So impressed with the volume and quality of your work. So good for me. I had a stroke a couple of months ago. And I have developed a limp that the doctor and pt don’t think it’s from the stroke. Seems odd to me. Stroke workup in progress. Followup mri in a month or so. As a librarian I’m good at info but confess I wish I could have more about my specific case. your videos help me a ton!

In my case excruciating pain comes with foot drop. It’s 24/7 pain in varying degrees. Lots of sleepless nights as much as 8 days awake without closing my eyes. It’s been so bad this last year I’ve been screaming. It’s scaring the dog and the neighbours knocked on the door to see if everything was ok. They thought I was being murdered. I got this just by turning over in bed, my disc came out completely, burst so the fluid leaked out therefore had to have it taken out. It had been pressing on my sciatic nerve causing the damage. When it initially happened, both legs stopped working completely. My legs look really thin like they had no bones or muscles. Really scary time. It’s been life changing. I had to leave my job and my husband too has been looking after me. It’s a living hell every day. I had surgery where I was eventually left with my right foot with drop foot. I’ve had this for 16 years but the last year it’s started irritating me on the bottom of my foot in a weird area where the only way to ease it is to weight bare and stand on it. The problem being is it lasts for days and I’m having to use crutches now to take some of the weight off my legs and knees because I’ve injured my knee. The knee won’t heel now because I’m having to stand and hold onto furniture as well as crutches. I’ve tried massaging it with creams, soaking in Epsom salts. Nothing works. Ives tried all the medications available over the years specifically for nerve pain and nothing touches it. For 15 years it’s been the usual burning, lightening bolt and pins and needles type pains. I oiled lays down with those pains even though they kept me awake also. But this new area it’s been irritating me the last years and having to stand, my legs, especially the one with drop foot is extremely swollen. I look like I have elephantiasis. If I can manage to get a couple of nights sleep the swelling goes right down to normal. But then I get this nerve sensation start again under my foot in a sensitive area it makes my foot clench up, as if someone is tickling it and it flinches. Then the whole thing starts again. No sleep, pain hallucinations.

Hi Tara, I love watching your videos. I am a new subbie. My daughter was involved in a terrible car accident a month ago and is in rehab recovering however, it has left her paralyzed from the waist down, but she has lots of feelings in her thighs and legs, but has not started moving her legs yet They have not stood her up yet either they’ve just been working on trunk and arm strength. She’s had a T 12 injury to her spine and is considered an incomplete like I said she has almost normal feeling her quads but has not started moving her legs just yet is there anything you could (generally)recommend?

Hi Dr.Tobias. Is it beneficial for me to use an AFO if my dorsiflexors has returned and just having slight spasticity when walking outdoor or uneven surfaces? I am currently in my 4th month of recovery from stroke and trying my best to train myself to improve my walking patternsand hopefully transition to walking with no cane. Your videos are helpful. What if we have had mobility issues since birth? I have developed over age and both of my legs are weak and I can't stand on my toes and if I walk more they just free fall making sounds when it lands. It's there in my father as well. I think I got it as hereditary but my sister is very normal like other people. I also have shivers on my hands when I feel nervous and don't have proper balance. Please suggest what I am suffering from? I have been to several doctors but no one is able to pinpoint me to a conclusion. Please help.

Two trees fell on me and buried me in the mud. The doctor wanted to amputate my leg. He placed a 16" pin in the femur. The foot suffered atrophy from carrying the leg walking with crutches for a year. While the two trees were on me, I could feel the foot moving excessively fast up and down. The big toe stuck up for years and later I had an orthopedic to sever the big toe and it fell down giving me some relief. He said that the tendon he cut would find its' self and grow back. And it did. I have foot drop and a raised foot limiting the movement significantly. What could I do for it? Thanks!

My goodness gracious! What an accident! This had to have been that one in a million freak event, something you can't even prepare for. Your whole life changes in the blink of an eye, and totally redirects you. Your body is not anything like it was a minute ago. The mind cannot accept the new reality. At first you focus on just getting out of the hospital, and maybe having some stitches or broken bones to contend with. But oh no. It's much worse than that. Okay, so you have surgeries, and accept the fact that you may have a few weeks at a physical rehab facility. And then go home and get back to NORMAL. Doesn't happen. Your mind wants to, but your nerve and muscle ability that had been working just a few weeks ago don't respond as they should. You hope and wish and pray that they will and you can more readily cope with this new version of {{{reality}}}. Brother, I've been there. I know how hard recovery is. It's not for the faint of heart, and I certainly don't wish it on anyone. I think the acceptance part maybe the hardest. The frustration of the situation. The woulda coulda shoulda's. The accident keeps replaying, and the aftermath with the health care. Depression may come along with that, too. Life is never the same as it was. It can be better in some ways, but then again coming home from hospital and rehab you see a life that was. The life you were living before "that day". The day this happened to you. It took me a long time to come to terms with it. I still can't say it. It's like a date marked in time. There is that day that divides my life, like other mental markers in time. The "before this happened" and "after this happened to me" statements kind of dominate my thoughts and speech. Another thing is not wanting to ask for assistance, but having to accept it. The humiliation is equal to the guilt I feel for troubling loved ones. I now see that "this thing that happened to me" affected their lives, too. Not in the physical sense, but they've become care givers without even applying for the position. Let me finish by saying it's tough. To say the road to recovery is easy is wrong. I look back and see that each next day in our lives is a road to recovery from whatever accident or incident that happened to us, however large or small. Then there are the major ones. We struggle with the smallest of things. Yet others cannot see or know them. We feel forced to look happy, to smile, even when we are in pain or uncomfortable. We want to be able to do the things we did "before the accident". To have some semblance of the life before. Ordinary things, small things may be obstacles. You may need a wheelchair, assistive devices, modifications. Do not let the word invalid define you. Because you are not. None of us are IN-VALID. I will pray for you. Just as I know that by the grace of God you survived, I know He has a reason for it. You may already know or feel that. God is still in the miracle business. Your survival and recovery up to today was indeed a medical miracle that was worked by God through all the hands that treated and cared for you. From surgeon to those who emptied the trash cans. He had a hedge of guardian angels around you. I will pray for your continued recovery. And your continued discovery of how to help yourself by searching for answers such as on this channel. I will also pray that in time you will find a sense of peace in all this chaos you were thrown into on "the day this accident happened" to you. My words often come out garbled and misconstrued, so please do not take anything I've tried to say as hurtful or insulting. I never intended it to be. I can never know the true extent of what you have been through and are still going through. But the fact that I saw your post and felt a healthcare kinship touched my heart. Now you go and have as great day as you can, Sir! And just remember that there's Some Buddy in this Whole Wide World of Web that has you in their heart and on their mind and is remembering you to God! 🙏

@@thetestament15 Thank you for reading my post and responding. It was wet in the woods that day. We had to stay out of it for close to two weeks because of the rain. The wind caught the tree in the top and set it back down on the stump and those around me had been in the timber for years. And got me excited or I would have simply circled the tree watching. I took off running with steel toe shoes on and they would not stop hollering at me they later said I would have outrun the falling tree if I had not fell down, if they had not continued to holler I would not have stumbled and fell down. I looked up knowing I did not have enough time to pick myself up. I was running from a burr oak, and there was a hickory tree still on its' stump we had fell the time before when we were in the woods. I thought I'll crawl up under it and it will protect me. I first thought about laying completely under it. Then, I decided to get on the other side. I go about twelve inches below my waist through and the falling tree landed on the tree I was under and it knocked it off the stump and the weight of both trees were on me. If it had not been excessively wet I would have been pinched into. I laid in traction for about ten days for the swelling to subside. The orthopedic told me he had never seen anything with so much swelling. He wanted to amputate it. My Dad said he would have to have three doctors tell him my leg had to come off before he would sign to have it amputated. Praise God he placed a sixteen inch steel rod in it and I still have a leg. An accident that is one in a million. God was watching over me!
