Knowing I'm aroace by now too, I actually had the exact same kissing experience. And I just gotta say, if you like someone, regardless of them potentially being aroace now, do not confess with a kiss! You'll put them in a spot where they might not know what's happening until it happened and you just end up overstepping their boundaries and potentially alienating the person you like. Consent is important even for "just" a kiss. And just because they didn't slap you away or some doesn't mean they consented. So in short, surprise kissing someone to confess is not the sweet romantic gesture that movies make it out to be

I know this was from 2016 but it came up in my feed for some reason. Really cool and funny animation/story! I bet my data is being collected somehow because it's related to an experience I've recently had that I want to share. At college, there is a girl I really like. I mean, I don't really know whether my feelings have died down but I do know it was initially just a slight attraction but it just kept growing and growing... It felt AMAZING! This crush was unlike any other. I was initially attracted because of her looks but eventually I started to like her as a person. She isn't the kind of girl I was looking for but she's the kind of girl I never knew I needed. She was perfect. She's literally an Angel. Really mature, kind, funny, supportive, friendly, compassionate, empathetic and humble. I loved being around her and talking to her, even though it was mainly on Snapchat. Literally the best part of my day, we got on so well! Eventually the feelings became so overpowering I told her how I felt. I told her everything. She told me I'm an amazing person but she has her heart set on someone else and she thought we could just be friends. I'm bringing this up because you're right, you shouldn't hide your feelings, just tell them! Before I told her I liked her I gave her compliments to make her feel good and sort of insinuate how I felt, even if she didn't pick it up 😂 I've been feeling quite depressed as a result because the feelings were out of this world, I can't stop thinking about her. But I just want to say to anyone going through a similar situation, time is a healer and eventually you will start to accept it. Don't bombard whoever you like or overwhelm them, just give them some space to process how you feel depending on how they act around you, or just talk to them as if you are friends if you want to keep the friendship. Again, if you have strong feelings for someone, just tell them everything! How you feel when you're around them, what you like about them! It's better than not knowing when something special could spark!

This is partially why I've never really had any friends of the opposite sex. In about 4th grade, the class was divided into girl-boy-pairs and each took turns reading a page of dialogue from a book. I had no problem with that, but afterwards I got bullied by a classmate for looking like a couple with my pair while reading the same book. And later, I bullied him back for spending too much time with girls during breaks. So we all had to stick with peers of the same gender or risk getting bullied. Absolutely pathetic behaviour from us. But then again, we were 10 or something and afraid of cooties.

i wanna say that i can speak from experience on the whole "friends first-tried a relationship-didnt work out" front. in early summer last year i confessed to a girl i wasnt very close with, and she ended up asking me out, we went on 2 dates, after the 2nd one she said wanted to stay friends. i think it is important in that situation, to give yourself some space! something i wish someone had told me then. you will only end up hurting yourself, because feelings dont go away once a relationship ends, so hanging out with them right after a failed relationship will just make you feel AWFUL. trust me, i know. give yourself a month (at least) to not hangout with them one on one, not text them constantly, and just get them out of your head for a bit. i learned to do this eventually (after about 3 weeks of trying to make a friendship work) and now she is my fucking best friend. it can work out, GIVE YOURSELF SPACE!!! :)

There's the other direction too where people really like someone as a friend but get freaked out when they find out this person as a romantic and/or non-platonic attraction to them aaaand basically end the friendship. I once felt like this was totally insane and horrible until I found myself doing the same because the person who was attracted to me like that I realized always wanted to change the dynamics of our friendship and I liked how it was but it couldn't be that way anymore because I knew they didn't want it to be the way it was and maybe never did. Relationships are complicated. Also, a lot of people are terrified of being thought of as creepy or perverse in some manner. Which creates a million kinds of awkwardness.
