By far, neck pain, tension, arthritis, and weakness is one of the most common reasons for doctor visits. Many people suffer with neck pain for a variety of reasons. If it is left untreated neck tension and pain can lead to premature vertebrae degeneration and arthritis. The good news is dealing with neck tension is actually quite easy.
In this routine I'll show you an exercise called Tiger Emerging. Imagine that you are a calm, quiet tiger waiting inside a cool cave... then in an instant you emerge out of the cave and pounce on your unsuspecting 'dinner!' That is the energy and visualization you can use in this exercise.
Over time this simple routine can help strengthen the muscles in the back, neck, shoulders, and mid back so that you can hold your body in good alignment. This also helps the qi of the lungs, heart, pericardium, and sanjiao meridian flow smoothly. Try and practice this routine everyday for 2 weeks and I am certain you will notice a benefit!

I think you're the best qigong instructor that I've encountered I was part of the communitqi years ago I've fallen out of my practice and I'm trying to get back into it. I just can't really afford to pay the yearly price right now. But I do love that you have some of your videos on KZbin

Hi @Jeffrey Chand ! I love your videos and usually practice the daily routine - although somedays i'm looking for something more specialized. Today I was looking for something specifically to open the throat. I know you have that one exercise in the opening exercise that the hands go up down the center and out thats good for this but do you have any other reccs? I'd really appreciate it. I def have stagnant qi that builds up in my throat when I have things I want to say but have to hold my tongue!

Hi Jeff, I really like your style it makes the exercise fun! I tend to yawn a lot during exercise. Is there something I can or should do about it? It doesn't bother me a lot except that it makes it harder to keep my breathing rythm. Greetings and thanks for the inspiration! Rutger

I love this one :). I like to be a tiger for a moment and think it may have also other benefits besides physical health. Thank you so much. I will try it for a couple of weeks and hope my shoulder and neck will be alright. I do other Qui Gong daily , but it does not seem to help with the shoulder and neck problems.

Leben in Glastonbury UK agree Have been practicing for 16 years and did have severe neck shoulder tension; However after daily practise of the The tiger, and rowing the boat; Now 8 weeks have hardly any tension and did notice a difference after 3 weeks thanks Jeff.

Yes, you can tighten and strengthen the arms as you are squeezing the shoulder blades together. It shouldn't be uncomfortable, but over time you will have a stronger upper back and shoulders. Hope this helps!

GM Jeffrey, I had a C1-C2 cervical fusion 10 years ago and have a lot of arthritis now. I have been doing regular QiGong but it has exacerbated my pain. My neck and traps are horrific. This looks like it will be perfect for my needs. Any other suggestions. Many thanks. Namaste, Judie from NY.

Oh my god this is wild! I’ve been having really bad neck tension all day today. Right before this I was doing another qigong exercise; I kept seeing a tiger coming to me. And now there’s mention of a tiger coming out in this video. Amazing!

Ofc the time of the month is about to start. I could tell by the excess stress & moods I have had the last 2 ish days 😬😮‍💨 but I will say since practicing the Daoist principles & slowly incorporating qigong, I have noticed I am 70% calmer 🧘‍♀️

Can this be alternated with the outdoor video (15.31) with the "chicken pose"(!) as I love that too for alleviating shoulder and upper arm pain and I just so want to get that leg flow .... they both seem so beneficial! Thanks so much..

I’ve been practicing for many years. I’ve adapted a slower breathe 🧘‍♀️ in my sequences. I’ve never asked this question. But is it possible ok to go much more slowly than your videos suggest.

What is your knowledge about qigong and medication? I take a couple of strong meds that seem to affect my qigong practice when I try more advanced practices/techniques. For the beginner and intermediate stuff I am fine, but for the advanced stuff, I can get insomnia and other symptoms when I take my nighttime meds. Ive tried different forms of qigong over the years with this same reaction.

Really enjoying your Qi gong routine. Have a question..when I’m in the middle of your routine I start to yawn. It’s not that I’m tired...is it stagnant Qi.

I was told several times that when you breathe deeper than usual, a common reflex is yawning. So maybe it'll go away on its own when you're more used to the exercises :)

+Diana Watkins that sounds like a complicated problem but I would highly recommend a self defense class. Not only would you learn about what to do in dangerous situations but you'll also feel empowered so that you are no longer an "easy target." We don't need to know how to "fight" in order to defend and protect ourselves. We need situational awareness, prevention, and self defense skills in order to be safe. I hope it all goes well☺

Are these good for degenerative disk disorder too? I have trouble with C4, 5, & 6 which causes neck & shoulder pain.

You should definitely consult with your doctor, physical therapist, or health practitioner to let you know if these movements are ok for you. If there is no "significant" degeneration then these exercises can be very helpful for alignment, strength, and range of motion, as well as letting the body relax and unwind. Please do consult your practitioner though :)
