Miles I feel like a key to the coffee shop story you shared is that you made yourself vulnerable. So often anger is masking hurt, sadness, so many other things. Love that you're encouraging everyone to lean into what might be behind the upset-ness and communicating genuinely from that place. Quaker school for the win!

I really resonated with this episode's get real segment. When my first baby was born I had no idea what I was doing and while I was overwhelmed with love, I was also just overwhelmed. I was 21 and it was hard and I remember constantly thinking "I can't wait for him to be a little bit bigger" because it was sort of scary holding something so small. I'd think "I can't wait until he can crawl so I don't have to hold him 24/7" because he never liked to be put down. I couldn't wait for this and that and for time to just pass to when I wasn't so scared or stressed. I just had my second baby this past November and the memory of thinking those things hits me so hard. I will never get that time back with my first and there's a sting of guilt in my heart everytime I really savor these little baby moments with my newest. I know it's because I've learned these moments with this person don't make a second run around so maybe I shouldn't or don't have to feel guilt for learning that, but I really wish I fully understood all this the first time. I can never go back and feel his tiny body in my arms again and hold him all day long. It is so important to really take everything in while it's happening and realize you won't be able to do it over or again.

Wow. Okay Miles. Y’all got me, y’all really did. There’s a quote that says, “grief is sneaky. A sound, a scent, a song, a smile can become tears.” And boy is that the truth. On Christmas Eve I lost my paternal grandfather and I was devastated. He was in his 80s but he acted younger than me lol. He was not a regular grandpa, he was a cool, goofy and youthful grandfather. Active and always a jokester. Never was he tired. Always dancing and being his playful self. So you can imagine how my family and I were so in denial of his passing. How many things he’s going to miss. All of my accomplishments and achievements that I know he would have loved to see. But now I know I can still achieve that and more with a greater reason and that will be for him. Thank you miles. For everything. These past few weeks have been a lot and I’m glad I was able to cross paths with this wonderful podcast. Keep it up. We all need a distraction.

!!! i cannot emphasize enough how important the advice about landlords is !!! while the specifics do vary by area, tenants *always* have rights, and in order to be evicted, you *must* be informed and given a certain amount of time (e.g. 30 or 60 days) to move out. landlords LOVE to pull things out of their ass and straight up lie about the law to intimidate tenants, but stand your ground and they will back down!!!
@TheShauNanigans Жыл бұрын
To add to this, look into whether your city has a tenant union and what they can do to help you if you think your landlord isn't being ethical. There are a lot of things I see people put up with where I'm just like... you know that's illegal right? Landlords like to take advantage of people's lack of legal knowledge they typically have as tenants. If you can, don't be that tenant.
@grllwrfr Жыл бұрын
@@TheShauNanigans so true!!! unfortunately (esp in more conservative areas) the law doesn't provide nearly as much tenant protection as it should, but folks would be surprised what legal remedies and/or rights are available to them!

When you talked about responding calmly to someone who is being an asshat to you, it totally reminded me of a time when my mom and I were at AT&T and the customer service rep was being a complete asshole to my mom. They were getting upset at her because she was having a hard time figuring out her phone. When it was all done, and my mom had went out to the car, I pulled them aside and I calmly said, it’s not cool the way your spoke to my mother; I get it can be frustrating to explain something over and over again, but it’s not excuse to treat someone with so much disrespect. They genuinely looked really sad and said they apologized. So I agree that speaking calmly to someone that mistreated you or was an asshole to you works.

Don’t you have fire at Will in the US though? Like when buzzfeed randomly fires everyone.
@TheShauNanigans Жыл бұрын
It depends on a lot of things. If you're union it is more difficult to fire someone. The employer would need to have a legit reason. Many states are "at will" states as you say here where the employee or the employer could end employment at any time. It is customary to put in a 2 weeks notice, but there are a lot of reasons not to do that as well as an employee (in my opinion). Not every state is an "at will" state, however. And I don't really know a lot about that, so I won't speak on it and offer likely incorrect information.
