Omg THANK YOU! Finally someone saying this! Sugar used to be my gateway drug too and especially as someone struggling with bulimia, quitting sugar is one of the things that really helped me dodging the binge eating attacks. I don't get why nowadays you almost get cancelled for saying that sugar is really not doing anything for you and your body than a quick dopamine rush... It is the truth!

I think the reason why so many people seem to be hyper sensitive about any type of good dietary change that you do is because the body positivity movement is now backed up by companies who actively lobby to keep us eating their high calorie high sugar foods. We have an obesity epidemic but if you dare point out that eating yourself to death is not good you get cancelled like????

The people who get mad at you for having strict boundaries around sugar either: 1) have such a healthy relationship with food/sugar, they can’t fathom compulsive eating and why some us need strict boundaries 2) have an unhealthy relationship with food/sugar and are in deep denial of their own addiction

@@yumihara14That last statement was really telling of your mindset. If you’re the kind of person to revoke your allyship to dark skinned people of color because someone on the internet annoyed you, then it wasn’t real to begin with. Your initial comment was meant as a compliment and because of certain racial stereotypes within the US that you might not be privy to, someone took it offensively. Instead of stepping back and acknowledging that there might be more for you to learn in this situation, you choose to lash out & threaten to revoke your support. Things like that shouldn’t be conditional. I can understand your frustration when you meant no harm but that response still isn’t right.

Former Type 2 Diabetic here and I can confirm with you that sugar is the enemy. Once I weaned myself off consuming an abundance of sugar (not all of it, but a whole lot) and carbohydrates, the blood sugar was lowered in no time flat and today the diabetes and kidney disease are in complete remission. For that I'm grateful and I'm never going back. Great video, by the way.

So nice to hear that your diabetes is in remission. I'm a sugar addict/binge eater and I'm really working at changing my eating habits. I've had raised sugars in a fasting blood test. I do not want to crossover into diabetes 2 just because I just HAD to have minute or 2 of pleasure while eating sugar and lot's of junk food.

Another tip I have when it comes to food is to consider what the purpose of eating such a food is. If you're about to eat lunch and you go for the croissant, ask yourself "why am I eating this?" If it's for sustainance, then the croissant probably isn't the right choice. But if you're at a birthday party and grab a slice of cake, the answer is 'celebratory'. Then when you go back for another slice of cake, you can say 'well I've already eaten my celebratory slice of cake.' I found mindfully thinking about the purpose of what I was eating meant I ate healthy meals and food, while simultaneously being able to let myself enjoy a limited range of sweets when I went out for something special. I would use three categories: sustainance, celebratory, and boredom as an example

I’ve always believed unhealthy food should be used as a special treat, like I’m not going to have desert every day but if I’m at the fair I’ll have a churro for the experience. But as I’ve gotten older and life is more stressful, there’s more and more “treats” creeping in. Like a croissant on Saturday morning, and cookies to go with my tea at night as a relaxing treat, then an olipop or ice coffee in the afternoon as a treat to get me through the work day, it’s not boredom, it’s like a reward but I feel I need them all the time now, it’s hard to untangle when I should really have those treats when I do work really hard all week. If you have any advice I’d love to hear it!

I just started my journey again today. I feel like I can't control myself. Eating a little is never enough. I have to go completely without. I would sit here and look at my children and think I'm about to let sugar take me out of their lives. That's how bad it got. When you cry about something that has so much control over you, you have to really sit and think about your choices.

For everyone saying sugar doesn’t harm at all… when you eat enough sugar that it spikes your blood sugar the sugar attaches to your collagen protein and destroy it through a process called glycation effectively aging you. If you can handle moderation awesome but I am 100% in the same boat of it being like an addiction. 😅

I actually LOVE this advice. Obviously, different things will work for different people, but I tried this same thing and it worked for me. I went one month without excess added sugar and I mainly focused on cutting out sweets. By the end of the month, I couldn't even finish a small ice cream because it was too sweet for me. I had to get rid of the addiction first before I could really focus on eating healthier. It also got a lot easier to not eat sugar that month because I made the decision to just not have any. When I saw something sweet, I didn't have to use my willpower to make a decision whether or not to eat it, I just knew that I had already made the choice to not even consider eating it, so it didn't take as much discipline

I am absolutely demonizing sugar. No one in their RIGHT MIND can honestly say sugar is good for you in any sense. Sure, you can still lose weight and eat sugar, but it is a major setback, and it depends on individual genetics, how much weight you have to lose, how much sugar you are eating and what method you are using to lose weight.

Perfect timing! I had such an unhealthy relationship with sugar my entire life and now that I'm older and know better, I am attempting to rid of it. Unfortunately, my body is extremely adjusted to it. In ways I'm not scientifically aware of, but I can feel. My body is so adapted to using it as energy and a dopamine release, I LITERALLY crash without it. (like a drug addict or something)

I can see how some people, sugar isn’t a big deal to them but from someone with adhd which makes my brain always crave outside sources of dopamine + addictive personality I cannot have it casually without depending on it, I lost 25-30 pounds cutting out fast food, chips and candy. this year I wanted to take a step further to cut out added sugar and have it on special occasions in moderation (like my birthday, certain holidays) that’s what I found works for me and then eventually I just wont even want sugar, the more I have it the more I crave it it’s the truth. ur channel helps me so much sugar has no nutritional value and does not serve us to have every day couple times a year at most or even not at all u aren’t demonizing it it is the truth.

Thank you so much Jade. Im struggling with fat loss for a year now, there were many up and downs while trying out different strategies like intermittent fasting but non of them worked for me. It wasn’t even the „lack of discipline“, sugar completely ruins your self control and it’s literally impossible to manage that, especially when you’re in a calorie deficit and still eating sweets. I recently found out that sugar was really the problem, because I often find myself craving for at least a peace of chocolate after a balanced meal, that‘s supposed to make me feel satisfied without wanting sugar after. I’ve been struggling this week by eating an amount of sugar that makes me feel bad (physically) and not even satisfied. You just feel tired after few minutes and get an energy crash, because of the insulin that shoots up and down. This in turn means that you don't feel like doing anything because you feel tired and exhausted. And later everything starts over again. I’m sick of it and want to change this bad habit, even if it’s going to be really hard. Especially when being around family or friends. Thank you Jade, you always post your videos at the right time.

I appreciate your nuance when it comes to your experience with sugar. While moderations works for some, it doesn’t work for others, and both are okay. What matters is experimenting and finding what works best for you. What worked for me personally was not to treat sugar as “bad” (therefore it would create “forbidden apple syndrome” and I’d crave it more). Rather, I treated it as unnecessary and easily replaceable with something that had more nutritious value (like fruit and the vitamins/fiber that comes with them). But I can’t treat my experience as proof that moderation works for everyone, especially considering that sugar does have addictive qualities to many people. Thanks for your video. 😊

I’ve been on keto for a little over a week, going on two weeks and have stuck to a strict diet and I already see a difference (without exercise). I don’t plan on staying in keto permanently, but it’s amazing what your body will go through once you cut sugar. I also wonder what will happen if I stick to keto and incorporate exercise. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been tough. Some days I just want to indulge, but I’ve come so far and do not want to ruin it because I can’t have at cookie. I look and feel better. My skin behaves better, my gut feels better and I’m losing belly fat. I feel like people have to come to a point where they simply have had enough of the same poor behaviors. I got tired of complaining about myself, tired of feeling guilty for over indulging, totally tired of the gut issues, etc. I got more desperate for change than sugar. It’s possible and if you want it badly enough, you’ll make it happen. 🙏🏾

a sugar addiction is one of the hardest things to get rid of because it’s EVERYWHERE. as someone who is underweight everyone tells me i don’t need to go on a diet or cut sugar from my diet because i need the extra calories, so they just shove food in my face. but they don’t understand that it’s not helping me become healthier

When I cut out all sugar except fresh fruit for 5 months I realized how listening to my body when it was hungry and satiated was actually supposed to work. I feel like it’s something we should all do once. If sugar’s not a problem, give it up for a few weeks and go back to it. What’s the harm in going without, if there’s no side effects but possible withdrawal from the thing you thought you weren’t addicted to? Lol

I completely agree. It's not about giving up sugar forever, it's about temporarily cutting it out until you are able to maintain moderation, for those who have spent long periods of their lives consuming it in excess. Thank you for sharing. :)

I literally have been constantly pleading. My fascination was sugar and a possible dictionary. I've gone off of sugar. Just even sugary drinks juice mainly. I don't really drink soda. I can control that meaning it could go a whole year and I wouldn't want but juice is a struggle for me. I'd try not to even buy it and put it in the house. I think sometimes it's hard when you live with people. Because people bring temptation along with them ice cream cake. Lovett my weakness and chocolate with nuts in it. My weakness candy not so much. I can cut back but juice is definitely one thing. I want to drink less really if I could drink. Milk you said all and only eat fruits when wanting sugar. Because fruits are healthy. That would be the best thing for me. Always struggle to lose Wait even though I stay in the gym. For my body type. I need to be strict and now compromising.

Such a good video!!! The trying to take one bite and put it back for "later" that took me out! Later WHERE?!? haha! When I cut out sugar and started eating more intentionally even my nail technician was amazed at my weight loss, all I did was cut back on fast food, sugar (I have a sweet tooth) and more plant based foods and exercise. Was it a struggle initially yeah, but after 2 weeks I noticed changes. More videos like this please :)

Thank you so much for this video! I used to be a major sugar addict and it is why I had gained so much weight. Sugar only makes you crave more sugar so best believe my sugar addiction was bleeding into binging. I would buy a family sized bag of jalapeno chips and eat the entire bag plus half a box of cheezits and a hearty dinner without counting my serving of rice on the side and *no greens*. I would take candies from every complimentary basket I could find (I was a college senior at my biggest) and my pockets at any given time were full of candy wrappers. I’m talking…at least 5 fun sized candies per pocket. I am almost 30lbs down from my biggest and 23lbs away from my goal weight. Biggest thing for me was actually starting to track calories and cutting everything out completely until I had the willpower to eat it again. I can now safely have cheezits in my house and eat one serving (or two) while watching tv and put the box away. Tracking calories and seeing my macros saved me. I realized the sweets and snacks were so many calories for so little sustenance, I was eating so much but still constantly hungry. Hearing other’s stories with sugar addiction makes me feel vindicated and it makes me feel less alone. So thank you so so much. The girls that get it, get it.

This was a good video. About a week ago I decided that I’m done with sugar which over the years since I had so many ups and downs… coming out of a down it was easy to do. I wasn’t in a horrid spot lol I’ve seen worse of myself but the things that I would do is eat a lot of the same things like popcorn and cashews like even if it was healthy but gave me the comfort food vibe that has been stalking me. So on top of the no more sugar I eliminated the things that make me want them as well as the corn syrups no more corn no more popcorn even sorghum. Not buying it to bring in the house anymore. If I happen to have a little while out I will so it’s not torture and it’s not something I’ll plan for… it’ll be on occasion and rare. Thanks for your vid just wanted to share my tip to
