yogalap.com | In this video Michael explains Ujjayi Pranayama followed by a practical Ujjayi breathing session.
This video is part of the Pranayama course 'Breath is Life':
www.yogalap.com/pranayama
Benefits of Ujjayi Pranayama/ Ocean breathing
1. Improves concentration in physical practice. Becoming absorbed in Ujjayi allows the practitioner to remain in poses for longer periods of time.
2. Instills endurance that enhances a flowing practice by lending a meditative quality that maintains the rhythm of the class.
3. It diminishes distractions and allows the practitioner to remain self-aware and grounded in the practice.
4. Ujjayi breath regulates the heating of the body. The friction of the air passing through the lungs and throat generates internal body heat. It is similar to a massage for the internal organs; as the core becomes warm from the inside, the body becomes prepared for the asana practice. This heat makes stretching safer while the inner organs can be cleansed of any toxins that have accumulated.
5. A focused Ujjayi breath can release tension and tight areas of the body.
6. Additional benefits of Ujjayi pranayama include diminished pain from headaches, relief of sinus pressure, decrease in phlegm, and strengthening of the nervous and digestive systems.
7. Ujjayi tells us when we need to surrender into a resting posture, as the breath should remain as even and smooth in the postures as when we rest. It allows us to practice honesty in our practice, taking a step back to let go of our ego.
8. Ujjayi allows us to practice full deep breaths during the challenges of physical practice. Therefore, we can stay just as equanimous when faced with the challenges of our daily lives.
It greatly helps if you like & subscribe and leave a comment below. May all be blessed with inner peace, love, and wisdom,
Michaël

Several years ago I went snorle diving and did really long Breath, where I would slowly let out my air which was very much like this breathing technique and I eventually got into a very deep peaceful State and I could hold my breath much longer but that was the only time in my life I ever was able to do it. How long does it typically take to get into the next state and what could I possibly be doing wrong that is preventing me from entering this deep state of relaxation? I try and try but I cant seem to get back to that place

I watch all your discourses on yoga, I love them all, my one question,if we do 100 rounds of ujjayi in the morning and 100 rounds in the evening is beneficial or harmful? awaiting your expert reply.
@yogalap
@yogalap Жыл бұрын
Dear Salim, doing it in the morning will be cleansing and energizing. But very importantly: you must practice very slow breathing and long meditation afterwards (at least 20m). In the evening I recommend to do slower, less energizing practices like: Kaki Mudra pranayama, Anulom Vilom and Slow Ujjayi breath. You must learn to apply very slow breathing techniques in your practice also. With peace and blessings, Michaēl

Sir How to take breath ? from nose or mouth
@yogalap
@yogalap 6 жыл бұрын
Dear Bhala, this Pranayama is done through the nose. However beginners can also do it in through nose out through mouth. The reason for breathing in through nose is to moisterize and warm up the incoming air and not to make mouth dry. Also when we can become more still and calm when we let the Prana (life energy and oxygen) flow with full awareness through nose cavity feeling it pass the area behind the space in between eyebrows.... Peace and blessings, Michaël

Hi Deb imagine when you breathe out that you are fogging a mirror with your breath, inhale and exhale with mouth open imagining you are fogging a mirror then after a few times close your mouth and breath in and out thru nose the same way and you will have it 🙂

Dear one, always through the mouth. As the ancient saying goes: "The mouth is for eating and the nose for breathing." So with these exercises always breathe through the nose unless stated otherwise. You can learn more about this in the complete course here: yogalap.com/courses/breathwork-pranayama Peace and good energy :)
