It's overwhelming in so many ways, especially when it comes to humans and modern life - but communicating with animals, them trusting me, sitting on or next to me seemingly randomly and butterflies and bees landing on me makes up for anything negative. 💚🙏 I just try to avoid the places that drain me and watch what goes in or around my body ! 🤷‍♀️😆

I, unfortunately, refer to myself as a sociopath with a conscience. I hate people. I am a misanthrope. But the empathy I feel is overwhelming and it keeps me feeling “human” more like an alien. I literally cry when they cut down lots to build houses because the dead energy of the trees is crushing my soul.

I'm neurodivergent in several ways (Dyscalculia, Auditory Olfactory and Auditory Tactile Synethesia, HSP, and an Acquired Brain Injury). I agree with almost all of what you said. I feel that all of these differences give me incredible empathy, the ability to see things from many different sides, a deeper appreciation of beauty (art, music etc), as I process it so deeply, greater understanding of my emotions and when I allow myself to, the capacity to be my authentic self. I would also add to these, increased resilience and determination.

@@suzeh7389 I think there’s a greater movement now towards talking about the strengths of various neurodivergence now, but there’s still a lot of stigma to wade through. @sensitiveyogatherapy Yes, it is definitely helpful. I always knew deep down, but it definitely helped to have it confirmed. It's less lonely. There are also crossovers with the other types of neurodivergence, which I mentioned in my first comment, which I found interesting. Holistic thinking, intuition, creativity, etc. are also found in people with Dyscalculia.

Thanks for that view. I'm 75 and was diagnosed with ADHD in my late fifties. But even then, twenty years ago, there was not much information to help me understand my condition; only textbooks, which, if you are dealing with ADHD are not really very useful. Much more helpful are the relatively short personal anecdotes of individuals who take the time and trouble to post these on KZbin. What a mess my life was! And still I learn every day, and gain a little more understanding of myself, with the help of people like you.

I absolutely agree that HSP is a neurodivergence, this is a topic I'm quite passionate about and I think it would geeatly help the HSP community if we finally openly acknowledged that we are neurodivergent. There are so many highly sensitive people who are suffering, because our brain works differently, but we keep trying to funtion the way neurotypical people do. If I'd say I was autistic, people would understand that I need certain accomodations, but if I say I'm HSP, most people have no idea what I'm talking about (not to say that in many languages HSP is translated as "hypersensitive", because it's hard to translate highly sensitive, and that doesn't help either). Anyway, if we'd acknowledge that HSP is under the neurodivergent umbrella, things might change for the better.
@sensitiveyogatherapy
@sensitiveyogatherapy 27 күн бұрын
Oh I love this comment... Yes, yes, yes! I agree completely. the wider HSP community do need to take this on and in doing so we can continue the work of creating greater awareness of neurodivergence and how different kinds of neurodivergence can overlap. Thank you so much for this comment :) xx

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Some people in the autism community are saying HSPs are on the spectrum. That's not necessarily science, but it will be interesting to see how it all changes over time with more research and understanding. The reality is things that are considered disorders now were not necessarily disorders during different times. ADHD and Autism helped tribal communities survive and discover things that neurotypicals never would have been able to do. Some ADHDers were likely the night watch people. And a study just came out saying that they made better foragers. The ability to hyper focus likely helped create a lot of inventions/discoveries over the course of human history. There's a reason these differencess survived in the gene pool for so long. I personally am now identifying as HSP, ADHD-I and Autistic. Figuring out my neurodivergence has allowed me to have more self-compassion and understanding for myself.
@AndreaCrisp
@AndreaCrisp Ай бұрын
I guess I should say that I identified as an HSP first, since being given the book in 2007. Got ADHD-I diagnosis at the end of 2021 right before my 46 birthday and now suspect autism, but at 48 I am not going to pursue diagnosis, because why. It would not change anything and be extremely expensive to try to get. Understanding myself is what matters at this point. Being neurodivergent has led to trauma, illness and disability, but at least I now have a better understanding and can give myself some grace.

Thank you so much for leaving this comment, I resonate so much with it all! I too identify as HSP, autistic and adhd. I’m really interested to see how the conversation and research pans out in the area of neurodivergence as a whole. Let’s hope it moves us forward towards seeing neurodivergent types as simply a difference between that is just as valuable as other neurotypes and that this leads to positive change to how we set up and structure our communities! 🙏❤️

For sure. The diagnosis is not necessarily the right route for us all. I have issues with it, as it is rooted in the pathologising of difference… however on balance (and after years of deliberation) I felt it was right for me, for no other reason than to have it confirmed and in my medical notes. Either way, I think you are spot on with having greater compassion for yourself. Seeing yourself through these lenses certainly helps to cultivate this.

@@sensitiveyogatherapy Unfortunately, I have a really bad HMO whose mental health is famously abysmal. So I don't want to get a diagnosis through them. I would be more likely to get misdiagnosed and paying out of pocket is out of the question. But things might change over time. And yes, I am excited to see how the newer research and advocacy changes things over time. It will take awhile, but we are making forward motion. This was my first time seeing you on KZbin. I really enjoyed the video and greatly appreciate your responses! Thanks for all you do. Definitely subbed. 💖

If it falls outside the norm of how a typical brain is structured through the developmental process I believe that would qualify it as neurodivergent. Autism and ADHD are merely the best examples that people know of. However, these phenomenon were only identified recently and are still very misunderstood.

Yes. I agree about the boxes and labels, not always that straight forward, at the same time a bit of help for those on the journey of self knowledge, and understanding of oneself. And again to be careful of not to make it a too big thing and become the "label", balance in all. On my own journey, only took the free online hsp tests, but over an extended period of time (about 3 years) say maybe 3-4 times per year. And came up with between 70-90% likelyhood of beeing hsp in every test. Also the overlap with introversion, about same 70-80%. This was about 6 years ago. Thank you for sharing👍

I also think that highly sensitive person is neurodivergent. It just means different and I think it is different in a good way. We used to be the shamans and wisewomen/men of the community because of this sensitivity. Medicalization is trying to define different as wrong but it is not. One just needs to learn how to take one's sensitivities into consideration so that this modern insensitive society and work life doesn't overwhelm us.
